The H V McKay Charitable Trust was established in 1926 on the death of Hugh Victor McKay.
Hugh Victor's wish was to provide funding for charitable purposes, particularly:
- The relief of poverty
- The advancement of education
- The advancement of religion in accordance with the tenets of the Presbyterian church
- The general benefit of the community not falling under any of the preceding headings
